Low volumes and low liquidity are characteristic of pre market trading, resulting in wide bid-ask spreads. Almost all retail brokers offer premarket trading, but they usually only accept specific orders. Pre-market trading typically begins at 4:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Most stocks have less activity in the pre market when there is no big news to report. This is when stocks are usually very liquid.
